About the Information Support Unit (ISU)

The Information Support Unit was established in November 1997 with a directive to facilitate the implementation of a financial management system for the Government of Barbados. Over time the role of the unit evolved from that of a section dedicated to initial system development and implementation to its current role of systems support.

The function of the ISU is to provide assistance to the users of the SmartStream software which is used to manage the Government of Barbados’ Financial, Human Resource and Payroll functions by:

  • Ensuring that an efficient security system is in place to safeguard databases from unauthorized access, while ensuring that the appropriate access is granted to officers so that they can work efficiently and effectively;
  • Managing the system to ensure its integrity, validity and timelines;
  • Implementing any system and policy changes whether management or financial in a timely manner.
